Faith for Breakthrough!
What is faith?
Faith is the basic ingredient to begin a relationship with God. Faith is the assurance that the things revealed and promised in the Word are true, even though unseen, and gives the believer a conviction that what he expects in faith, will come to pass! Faith is being fully persuaded that what God says – he will do!
Why is faith so important?
1. You can’t please God without it.
Hebrews 11:6 “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”
2. You can’t overcome the enemy or life’s challenges without it
Ephesians 6:16 (KJV)16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
You cannot have victory in your life without faith! Especially in these times, we need to know how to use our faith to overcome life’s challenges. My husband always says:
“You have to be very brave if you think that you can make it in these times without God and Faith”.
Faith is going to be the new currency that we need to use in these end times because money is not able to answer ever need!
I remember when I was trying to conceive my firstborn Ethan. We had tried everything we knew how to get our breakthrough. We cried, prayed, sowed seeds, and fasted. Yet month after month we never conceived. We visited doctors and took medications that the doctors recommended but we still did not conceive.
One morning during Clint’s quiet time, he was seeking God about this and the holy spirit spoke to him. He said to Clint that our hearts were barren when it came to children. And, that we needed to sow new seed into the soil of our hearts.
Bear in mind, we knew the scriptures relating to children. But, there is a big difference between knowing the scripture (head knowledge), to be fully persuaded that what God says in his word he will do (converting your head knowledge to a heart conviction). This is where Faith comes in!
To be honest, when Clint told me what the holy spirit said I was not so happy to receive that message from God! After all, I knew the scriptures and in my mind, I was doing all that I needed to do. So, for God to ask for more from me almost felt unbearable!
But, I thank God that we went through this season in our life because had we not have encountered this struggle we would never have sought hard after God and learnt how to build our faith, and we would never have learnt the keys of faith that have brought countless miracles and victories into our life.
At that stage, Clint and I were willing to try anything. So, we decided to heed the instructions that the holy spirit gave to us. The first step we had to take was to find the seed (promises of God) relating to our need. The Bible tells us that the word of God is seed – Mark 4:14. So, we gathered every scripture we could find relating to children and we stuck them up all over our house (bathroom mirrors/dressing table mirror/chalkboard in my kitchen, on the fridge) so we had something to stand on and confess.
Deuteronomy 6:6-9 The Message (MSG)
6-9 Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.
Once the scriptures were up we had to get those promises into the soil of our heart. So, that it could take root. Remember, your heart will grow anything you put in it.
That’s why the word of God encourages us to: “Guard your heart for out of it flows the boundaries of your life” – Proverbs 4:23
Now you may find that you have to pull out some weeds that have grown in your heart from unbelief, wrong information which is contrary to Gods word! We also have wrong beliefs built up from where we have come from (upbringing, what people have spoken over us, even wrong doctrines!!) I had weeds that had to be uprooted and replaced with the word of God – which is the Truth! Always make sure that you walk in the truth of Gods word concerning your situation. You can only do this when you search out the word for the scriptures and promises relating to your situation. Remember, if God likens the heart of man to soil, just like a farmer has to prepare the soil so the seed can grow and produce a bountiful harvest, so do we need to uproot all the weeds in our hearts!
The Word of God is a seed, that when planted into our heart it causes faith to grow. It develops a spiritual force in the heart or spirit of man called faith. When you allow the Word of God in the midst of your heart and meditate day and night in that Word it will not return void but is forced to produce. That Word becomes a seed planted firmly in your heart.
Mark 4:26 -28“And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.”
Now, it was great that we had the scriptures and had planted them in our heart.
But, Your faith won’t work when you merely stop at believing what the Bible says. Bible-believing is not just mental agreement with the Word. Bible-believing acts.
So, Biblical faith — Christian faith — is not merely
agreeing that something is true, or agreeing that someone is
reliable. No. Real Biblical faith goes on to surrender to the One
that is true and goes on to rely completely upon Him. Thus, real
faith carries with it ACTION. I not only see the Truth, agree that it is
the Truth, but I then make the choice to give myself to it. That is
action, or works. Real faith always motivates us to action.
Mere “belief” can actually be “faith without works.” Why? Due to
the fact that simply believing something is true does not necessarily
mean I will act on that belief. Belief does not necessarily result in proofs.
Faith is not waiting for God to work, but putting God’s Word to work in order to commit His integrity to perform.
It is engaging what God has said to commit God’s hand to perform it.
A man waiting for God to work is operating a faith that is dead. 1Samuel 2:3
Faith without action carries no weight before God.
The performance of God is activated by the action of man. Luke 5:4 (Simon when he had been fishing all night but when he heard the words of Jesus and acted on what he heard, proofs followed!)
Faith believes, receives and therefore speaks.
You must always substantiate your believing by adding something to it; and that’s the faith-action, which is demonstrated by your speaking
Luke 6:45 “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks…. Take an inventory of what is coming out of your mouth. This will show you what seed has been planted in your heart! If you don’t like what is coming out plant new seed!
By declaring the Word aloud, you are doing three things:
1. You are reminding the Lord of His Word and showing Him that you believe that Word to be true.
2. You are reminding yourself of what His Word says. This is a continuous process; it never ends. Regardless of how long you have been a Christian, reminding yourself of the Word is a beneficial, daily practice.
3. When you speak the Word aloud, you are taking a stand against the enemy. You are proclaiming that Jesus is Lord over your life, that God’s Word stands true, and that the enemy is defeated in your life.
Watch what you say! Speak the word only. This was a difficult step to do in the season while I was waiting to conceive my first born. The enemy will bring people across your path to steal the word. He wants to ensnare you with your words. Proverbs 6:2 “you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth.”
When people came to me and asked when we were going to have a baby? I had to ensure that I was calling things that were not as though they were. I could not agree with what they said at times. Some well-meaning people would say things like maybe you are not meant to have a baby? Maybe it’s not Gods plan for your life! I could have agreed with them! But, instead, I had the scriptures (which was the TRUTH about my situation) to confess and align my response to them with. It may have been a fact that I did not have a child, but it was not the truth!
It may be a fact that you are broke, but it’s not the truth. Why? My God shall supply all my needs according to his riches in glory – Philippians 4:19
It may be a fact that you are sick, but its not the truth. Why? By his stripes I am healed – Isaiah 53:5
When you grow and activate your faith in an area. Your faith brings to pass the desired result.
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance (title deed – ownership reality) of things hoped for (my baby), the evidence of things not (yet) seen (I was not pregnant yet). (KJV)
Hope is all about future potential, you can spend your whole life hoping away for things to change! But, faith is always in present tense. Faith is something you have now, for what you will receive in the future. The ownership reality of faith is now, in the present. Faith can, and will, pull that which you had hoped for from the future and into the now.
Mark 11:23 “Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart (now), but believes that what he says (now) is going to happen (in the future), it will be granted him. (24) Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them (when you pray), and they will be granted you (in the future).”
In the spirit, you have to get your tenses right! Faith is the harvest of things hoped for, the reality of things not yet visible. Hope says you can have it, faith says you do have it. If you release that Word of Faith by speaking it – it will come.
Now faith without works is dead! Faith without corresponding Action does not work. Receive is not a passive word. God always shows up where there is a willingness to receive. Each of us has a part to play in receiving healing or anything else we need from God. We can’t just hope He will touch us or meet our need. That’s not what the Bible teaches. What you receive depends on your faith, and faith is not passive. Faith is a receiver, an appropriator, a taker. It reaches out and takes what God offers.
The way we reached out and took our promise for a child was putting corresponding action to our faith! Faith moves!
We took steps towards our baby. We bought the cot, done our nursery bought baby clothes. Now we still weren’t pregnant! And yes it must have looked like we had lost our minds! But that’s what you call the foolishness of faith!! That’s what we call faith props!
It wasn’t long after that I found out that I was pregnant.
Faith always delivers your desired result. God is not a man that he should lie, if he said it will he not do it – Numbers 23:19
Whatever your need may be, I encourage you to not just accept that as your lot in life! God has shown us keys that when we apply them they will work for us!
Romans 12:3 “For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
The measure of faith that was imparted to you at the new birth is powerful. It must be nurtured and cultivated by God’s Word. As you grow in the knowledge of God, you develop in faith. Make yourself strong on the promises of the Word of God. Release your faith in those promises and activate them in your life. The results you desire will surely come to pass. God’s Word will work for you. Allow the faith of God in you to work for you in every area of life!
We have worked these principles of faith for our home, business, finances, health etc. And, so can you!
